Fever Ray Significantly Better Than Sugar Ray

Never would have guessed it.

Dalvino’s covered some Fever Ray already, and if you haven’t heard it, then hear it. But it’s reinvigorated my love affair with The Knife. While I’m perfectly content listening to “Heartbeats” in various incarnations over and over again, I hadn’t given Silent Shout a decent enough chance when it first came out. That’s okay, because the album was (is) probably a bit overrated, but the title track is far too killer not to post–mostly because the video is just so creepy and fantastic.

What seems at first to be your standard visual effects for a dance track takes a sudden turn for the frightening about a minute in, and it doesn’t turn back from there.
Or if you prefer something a bit more upbeat (and more akin to The Knife’s signature plastic, sticky electro-pop sound–has writing about music always felt so bizarre?), go for “We Share Our Mother’s Health.” (This one reminds me of something Ween would do if they dropped the silliness but kept the tempo-warp.)Which, for some reason, also has an incredible video. Why some bands just attract fantastic m-video directors, I’ll never know.

See you on a different Friday.
