Joe Pug Unplugged…
…Living room style
So a few weeks ago, a friend of mine asked “what are you doing the Friday April 7th?” I said “probably just gonna get drunk somewhere in Milwaukee, so basically, nothing.” He responded with “well, you should head down to Chicago, because this really amazing musician is going to be playing in our buddy’s living room.” I said “sounds like a plan”
What happened that night was a once in a life time, musical perfect storm. The one that makes you forget about the blah blah blog musical hype scene. The stupid 2 oclock am searching the blog rolls for “cool” new music to ramble on about. The “dude, you hear that sick remix of ____.” What happened that night felt like a real, genuine, heart felt, musical moment that can only be experienced with friends in someones living room.
Not knowing or hearing any of Joe Pug’s music, and only going based off my friends good taste in music, I really didnt know what kind of night I was in for. What happened was really what music is all about.
Joe Pug, an up and coming, quite talented, folk musician, to use the shitty phrase “dylanesque”, put on quite a musical show. Joe and a small posse of film makers and setup dudes, strolled into the apartment, their 5th show of the night, with nothing more than a camera, and more importantly and acoustic guitar, harmonica and some really amazing song writing. He absolutely wowed myself and maybe 20 other people, with possibly one of the most intimate and talented musical nights in a lonnng time.
So, I guess after hyping this up a ton, heres some footage of that night, and some of his music. Also, hes playing at Schuba’s may 1st and 2nd. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Double also, keep your ears open for my buddy’s band Bottom of the Lake. REALLY good. (They played right after Joe)
