Death of Autotune, Intelligent and Pissed Off
Jay Z has written the punk-rap manifesto, D.O.A (death of autotune). Like all good punk music, Jay’s newest single is born of disgust. It’s good to know that the modern king of hip hop is just as pissed off over Love Lockdown as we all are.
The track sounds like a jazz trio playing through the bombings of Hiroshima. The production is pointedly ugly, especially when Jay starts to sing, but it all works. Jay does what no other rapper does anymore, raps. With any luck D.O.A will be looked back upon as the rebirth of intelligent lyrics and bare bones production.
We all know Jay Z gets more love than a Paris Hilton nipple slip, but listen to the single and give him some more.
