Where It’s At – Beck’s Record Club

Beck is once again, Steve McQueening the music world. I could go into how I feel about Mr Hansen, but I lack the verbosity and the articulation to do him justice. I am a giggling teenage girl circa a Jonas Bros concert about this gent.
The relaunch of his official with ah new feature, Record Club( and we heart Planned Obsolescence) is bien stuff . Record Club? Pray tell? What is this club you speak of sir?
Imagine, if you will, being one of the most down for the count, coolest folks in the world, k? Then imagine all of your friends are as redonkulously sicko in their own right. With me so far? So turns out you all make music.. amazing music. Hmm.. what to do, right? All star cribbage! er.. what?..no? Ok fine! Dix! ha
The concept is pure milk and honey. Beck and some pals (Devendra Banhart, Jamie Lidell, Nigel Godrich and MGMT off jump and we would be shishocked if Coyne doesn’t show up quick fast and in a hurry) are getting together ,with no rehearsal, and covering a legendary album in a day. Yes, doing it Jack Bauer style. The concept has been done before for sure, but not by Beck.
They are carpet bombing a track a week from the session and the first album they are reworking is Velvet Underground & Nico. I may have personally dug a Loaded rework more, but that is like Hon Maguro V. Wagyu. You win beeeg either way.
For the record, Lou and Co. beat out: Digital Underground – Sex Packets for the inaugural. Yes, the Digital Underground that purportedly once got busy in a “have it your way” bathroom. This project is that awesome. A triple plat, certified thousand bonus to be sure.
The Chicken is through the moon about this project. We could really see some epic Dylan, Bowie and the seemingly obvs, already recorded: Sonic Youth -Evol crackalackin out of this. The noodle kaboodles at the sheer jazzz and possibilities. Grab a bib and dig in!
