The Antlers -Hospice

The Antlers – Hospice via Frenchkiss, found it’s merry way to the coops fresh new music desk a little while back. To be honest, the Wiz gave it a spin, kind of dug it.. but took a pass INITIALLY ( no one’s perfect don’t judge don’t judge!). Something ( my subconscious radness detector methinks) made me drop The Antlers’ disc in my pod and I kept getting it on shuffle… and well you know the story… Hospice grew on me like a weed and now we kick it like Wilson Pickett!
I could describe the album, but this quote from Antlers frontman Peter Silberman pretty much says it all
“Hospice came from the idea of caring for a terminal patient who’s mentally abusive to you. You don’t have the right to argue with them, either, because they’re the one who’s dying here; they’re the one that’s been dealt a wrong hand. So you take it, but you can only take so much. Eventually, you realize that this person is just destroying you.”
It is a beautifully heart-wrenching, ethereally layered album if ever there was one and Peter’s voice is a osofine sonic gem. It is obvs not dance music and quite possibly not for everyone off of jumpstreet, but give it a few spins and get to know it because to know it is to love it. We do! We are pretty excited to watch this band’s career develop and expect to be hearing much more from and about them in the coming years. You REALLY need to pause Discovery and listen to Hospice ahora. This album will be on our/your/their end of year lists I suspect.
