Keith Richards & Gram Parsons

Keith Richards & Gram Parsons

This week I bring you a song that has made me feel a countless numeber of emotions.   So, I’ve been sad, elated, numbed by, and also depressed that I didn’t write the beautiful bastard that is The Rolling Stones “Wild Horses.” Now some might call this an obvious choice for a cover song to chose, but hey, it’s my wife’s favorite Stones song and it also gives me a chance to put up not just two great version of it, but three.  So, in lieu of being extraordinarily pithy this week, I’d like to give you “Wild Horses” written by Mick and Keith, but released first by Gram Parsons and the fabulous Flying Burrito Brothers for their second album Burrito Deluxe and then released on Sticky Fingers. As it turns out, the Stones already had it recorded but good ole Gram talked Keith into letting him and his boys get the first crack at it.   I will then follow these two outstanding and twang tinged tracks with the graschewin’ Jerry Garcia led version recorded by bluegrass suuuupergroup Old& in the Way.  Although it speeds up the tempo a bit, the song still works.  And hey, I love me some Jerome Garcia! Hope everyone has a great tuesdaY!
