Jay Reatard wishes he were half as lo-fi as the UK based band, the Lovvers.  The Lovvers’ sound is so lo-fi that it’s almost a hinderance, almost.  Think, the Lovver’s newest ep, out on Witchita Recordings, sounds like it was recorded in a closet, using only one overhead mic.  The drum sounds are ugly, cymbals sound like dropped plates, the amps sound like they are buried in sand, and the vocals are so distorted that they are incomprehensible.

Needless to say, The Lovvers are a very enjoyable band to listen to.  Sometimes, especially on the track “OCD Go Go Girls”, they channel the spirit of post-punk bands from yesteryear, such as Richard Hell or Milk N’ Cookies.  The last call and response phrase of “OCD” even summuns old Who a la “Can’t Explain”.  For the most part though the band is a modern flag barer for the Fuzz Generation.

There are a lot of bleeps and boops up on this site so the Chef decided to add a dash of salt.  Here’s The Lovvers, a decidedly ugly band that would rather write a 1:30 song about good times than listen to C-3po’s beat machine.
