Hand me down tuesdaY: No Fun

Hand me down tuesdaY welcomes back the hippest mother fuckers from Motown, The Stooges. ”No Fun,” off of Iggy and the crew’s first album, has to be one of those songs that bands just love experiment with and attempt to add personality to. It’s the perfect template. It’s relaxed, soulful, and seemingly simple while still managing to shred. Full of soul shaking hand claps that accompany Iggy’s moan that sounds like the tape stopped rolling after being up for 37 hours, “No Fun” is signature Stooges. And that’s not meant as an insult, it’s a perfect example of how Pop’s lazy drawl always manages to make the fuzzy madness that accompanies it as or more important than the words.
Taking stabs at this influential classic and doing fine jobs are two bands just as dirty, The Sex Pistols and The Black Keys. While the song stays relatively the same both bands add a touch of their own sauce. Johnny Rotten and co. add speed and dropper full of attitude while Dan Auerbach’s vocals and bluesy strum sprinkle “No Fun” with as much soul as an original Keys number. Choosing a favorite for me is impossible because I believe that all three are top notch. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t———–>let me know what you think.
