Freelance Whales to release debut on Frenchkiss/Mom+Pop

Freelance Whales debut LP Weathervanes, is going to be released via Frenchkiss/Mom+Pop records, and upon first listen, it’s pretty clear why. The songs are ingenuitive and catchy, and immediately struck me as something that will stick. The sound develops as if coming off some sort of Island of Misfit Instruments and the band manages to build on multiple emerging hooks and then layer them with gang vocals without ever seeming redundant. Evoking hopefulness out of a ghost story while floating through New York venues is a powerful and complex way to begin as a band. You’ll definitely see more of this crew.  Also, for folks that have found Death Cab for Cutie’s hooks likable but always wanted a little bit more of a challenge from the band, the Freelance Whales might just give you the challenge you’re looking for.
