The megalords of cool, Sub Pop, have signed Milwaukee’s own Jail. Arguably the biggest news to hit the Milwaukee music scene since the Violent Femmes’ eponymous debut album climbed to the lofty 171 on the billboard 200, this announcement brings hope and vitality back to all brew city musicians searching for recognition.
In a strange sub-announcement Jail has changed their name to Jaill, so as to avoid confusion and lawsuits with a 1970’s German band of no consequence.
Jaill heads back to the studio (in Bay View) in January to record what will hopefully be there break out album for Sub Pop, the record company that launched the careers of Nirvana, Fleet Foxes, The Shins, and The Postal Service. With any luck Jail’s, whoops I mean Jaill’s, style of roach-smoked toast-at-four-in-the-afternoon psycho-pop will become as intrinsically linked with Milwaukee as Nirvana’s grunge is to Seattle.
Sorry Danny Gokey, we have new heroes now.
