A couple of weeks ago a few from our Milwaukee collective trekked over to Madison to check in on Edward Sharpe and the Magnificent Zeros and ended up being blown away by LA outfit, Fool’s Gold.  While Local Natives ushered in the evening with an energetic and inspired performance it was Fool’s Gold that helped the crowd shed their furs and mad bombers and work up a bit of sweat.  They also turned the usually gazed upon wood beneath our feet of the High Noon Saloon into an all out dance floor.  Trust me, on this particular night it was very hard for Eddy Sharpe and Co. to match the intensity brought by their LA brethren.

Their sound; Afro beat meets Soul meets Pop is unique, refreshing, and infectious.  It’s hard to nail down all the components and comparisons due to Fool’s Gold being ripe with originality (well, I suppose it’s easy to be original when most of the words on their debut album, Fool’s Gold, are sung in Hebrew).   But  for those in need of a little musical six degrees coercion, if your ears like Graceland era Paul Simon, Antibalas, Talking Heads, Buena Vista Social Club, Vampire Weekend, Dirty Projectors, the score to My Blue Heaven etc, they’ll need no pulling on.  Right now the band is in Europe but I suggest if they book a date in your town, dress lightly and make sure to wear your dancin’ shoes!
