New Caribou Album Details and MP3

It’s been a little over two years since the release of the Andorra, Dan Snaith’s (a.k.a Caribou) universally acclaimed, and Polaris-Prize-winning LP.  Fans of Snaith and his mercurial brand of electro-pop won’t have to wait much longer for the highly anticipated follow up, Swim.

Swim is due out on April 20th, a day when most of Caribou’s fans will be marveling at the size of their hands, muttering incoherently in a bush, or laughing at the cat, because, you know, it’s a cat.  In trying to describe the concept of Swim, Snaith has been quoting as saying that he wants to make, “…Dance music that sounds like it’s made out of water…” which sounds exciting until you read on and realize that he uses the word “slosh” to describe the movement of the music.

Anyone who wants a preview of this new genre of slosh-pop can download the opening track from Swim, “Odessa”, at Caribou’s site, or you can listen to it here at The Coup.  “Odessa,” is indeed a little more poppy and danceable than Caribou’s usual ethereal output, although there is no shortage of the expected reverberation or eeriness.
