At Latl At Last

I heard about Milwaukee natives At Latl for the first time about two hours ago from an old church friend of Kent Watson, the band’s lead singer.  A lot of things have changed in the past two hours.

What I expected to hear was a cacophonous din of backfeeding amps and bleeding heart lyrics spat into scratchy mics, and what I got was a quartet of polished, quick, psycho pop songs in the vein of Modest Mouse.  The vocal work is wild and desperate but never loses pitch, which compliments a maddening chorus of distorted guitar, and all while the drums clatter on off beats like a stuttering steam engine.

“My Devil’s Evangelical,” a four minute waltzy romp through strange religion,  is the highlight off of their 2008 Atlanta Atlanta E.P., which you can download in it’s entirety, for free, HERE.   Fans of Atlanta Atlanta can expect a full length debut album sometime this summer.
