Revel In Obscurity: Fiveng

Fiveng is not a famous band, they’re not even a band, they’re not even a “they’re”, but more of a “he’s”, a one-man musical project that has gained enough indie-blog momentum in the last month to force Nicholas Ng of the Bay Area into the limited spotlight of  Pitchfork and company.  Very little is known about Nicholas and his music, other than that he seems pleasantly surprised at the new-found and certainly valid attention that his track, “Jonah”, is receiving.

Musically Fiveng is a happy time-bomb of major chords and tastefully art sound effects, such as chirping birds and what I think is a couple of pipes clanging together.  Space-pop, sure, that’s what I’ll call it, why not, this is a music blog, we thrive on making up buzz words.

All joking aside Fiveng is just going to keep getting bigger, a stud musical prospect for the 352 days left of the new year.  For all the crap that the internet is responsible for and/or facilitates, it also does some pretty incredible things, like connecting an entire populace to a true songwriting talent; and in writing this I have only perpetuated the movement of an often misused machine.

All in the name of Fiveng, check him out.
