Today we feature an interview with another great up-and-coming Chicago artist Violetness.
SC: You currently reside in Chicago, are you born and raised?
Vanessa: I was born and bred in Los Gatos, California and growing up I spend
quite a bit of time in Peru.
SC: When did you decide that music is what you wanted to do with your
life? Any notable influences?
Vanessa: I knew, probably, the first time I ever touched a piano or opened my
mouth to sing. As a kid, I hated school and authority for that matter
so music and the arts were my outlets. I mean, I wasn’t out there
running around in the streets and breaking the law. I just chose to
care about creating things over anything else. With that being said
my most notable influence would be school because I wanted to do just
about everything but that.
SC: You have written recorded a handful of tunes that have been met with a
formidable success. Do you have plans for a full length or EP in the
future?
Vanessa: I’m a few weeks away from finishing my first Ep and by the end of the
year a full length.
SC: What is the music scene like in Chicago right now?
Vanessa: I kinda just do my own thing so I don’t really know. Im sure there is
a lot of great indie music being created seeing that there is so much
talent here.
SC: What are some other artists/bands in and outside of Chicago that have
caught your ear as of late?
Vanessa: One of my favorite bands in Chicago is the duo My Gold Mask, who I
recently opened up for. They fucking rock and are awesome people too.
Also, Ryne Estwing of Louis and the hunt creates some pretty
remarkable heartbreaking music.
SC: Any plans to tour in the future?
Vanessa: Oh yeah, with everything crossed I will be touring sometime this year.
