The votes are in, and the general blogosphere public are sold on the newest Gorillaz track, “Superfast Jellyfish,” which features Gruff Rhys of SFA as well as De La Soul spitting some signature goofball rhymes. After “Stylo”, the general ape-shit crazy public wasn’t sold on Albarn/Hewlett’s latest transmogrification of the nonexistent quartet, but after a brief surf over the waves of interminable shit that is the internet, it’s apparent that the Gorillaz are back on top with “Superfast Jellyfish”.
This newest cut sounds like a funky homage to The Who Sells Out, but with a beat, and a choir of chirping underwater creatures. De La Soul’s delivery on “Superfast Jellyfish,” is a staccato stream of commercial consciousness, and it is the unconventional crux of the synthesized song. On “Superfast Jellyfish,” it seems like Damon Albarn has been given free range to be as strange as he wants to be with whomever he wants to be strange with.
