The Love Hangover

The Love Hangover is an annual, day after Valentine’s, dose of say, reality, or true romance or, perhaps those two explorations are one in the same. They at least share a border. It is an event that is now in its eleventh year and has been staged in Brooklyn, Kansas City, MO, Ann Arbor, MI, Raleigh, NC and this year, for the first time, the Love Hangover is in Chicago as well. The show is tomorrow night at the Double Door and, I thought I would give the heads up to SC’s Chicago readers because it is a very cool idea.

Here’s a description from the press release:

On this evening every year, the world weary and the true believers alike huddle in pairs, playing to those themselves a little tired and worn, whether from love itself or lack thereof. Each show will feature noted musicians and performers, as well as luminaries from the local music scene, singing Eros-centric duets that range from poignant to comical to just plain naughty. Whether performing songs originally written for two – or just reinterpreted as such – these inventive, inspired pairings frequently prove true the adage that opposites do attract.

The Love Hangover will feature some of Chicago’s finest musicians doing something that I am totally a sucker for and that is pretty damn hard to come by in todays indie rock music scene, duets. If for whatever reason this Monday finds you in the mood for exploration, the kind of surreal emergence from pain that can only be brought on by, both a lack and excess of, things vital to the human experience. Check it out, maybe you could use a musical bloody mary.

The Love Hangover is tomorrow at the Double Door in Chicago, tickets are $8 and doors open at 7pm the show starts at 8pm.

  1. This is going to be a really fun night. As a performer in last year's Love Hangover in Brooklyn, I can tell you that this is an event not to be missed. Great performers, killer vibe. This year's Chicago show will be no different.
