The Morning Benders

MorningBendersPostDA500

The Morning Benders have been making waves recently in anticipation of their Big Echo LP, which is out on March 9th.  After spending the past three years opening for the likes of Grizzly Bear, Death Cab For Cutie, Ra Ra Riot, as well as collaborating with the ineffable Girls, The Morning Benders seem poised for a breakthrough with Big Echo, which affirms the identity of a band that beforehand spent too much time mired in ho-hum indie rocker club.

“Promises,” which is the first public track off of Big Echo, is available for free download on their site, and it’s worth the zero dollars and nil cents you would’ve paid for it otherwise.  The song is as good as The Morning Benders’ back catalog is frustrating.  All the glimpses of pop luster, or hints of adroit songwriting come through on the opiate poppiness of “Promises”.

Another track off of Big Echo that’s  stealing all the indie hearts and headlines out there is, “Excuses”.  “Excuses,” rides a bakers dozen of vocal 1-3-5 waves, up, down, and through a tale of minor heartbreak.  The track is about as happy as a song entitled, “Excuses,” can legally be.  The strings and chiming child’s piano help separate this song from every other honeysweet pop song on the airwaves or in the podded ears of the youth.

Yeah, you might not be able to admit to loving The Morning Benders in public, but you still have your Tears For Fears dvd locked in your closet, submerged in porn and pogs, but these guys are good in a way that most eunuchs aren’t.  Here’s to a band that can write a catchy hook in a major key.
