You’re probably familiar with Das Racist as the terrible twosome behind 2009′s best song (fast-food chain division), “Combination Pizza Hut/Taco Bell.” In fact, because that song is so great, listen to it HERE:

We often tend to write off bands with an acute sense of humor as novelty bands instead of “serious artists” – and “Pizza Hut/Taco Bell” seems more Lonely Island, Flight of the Conchords-style pisstake than the work of a serious musical group. (Whatever a “serious musical group” is…) Which is why Shut Up, Dude is interesting; it  finds the two melding the undeniably hilarious (and successful) stoner-savant aspect of their sound with more structurally conventional rhymes. It’s not always successful, but it is morbidly interesting to hear the absurd, pop-culture imagery and kindergarten wordplay that Das Racist deal in for an entire hour.
