Get Hip: Born Ruffians

Born Ruffians have been making George McFly friendly pop since 2004 and are ready for you all to fall in love with them. The Canadian trio ( Luke LaLonde, Mitch Derosier, Steven Hamelin) have released a handful of EPs, a debut record and are set to release their sophomore effort, Say It, on Warp Records June 1. I came across the lead single, “Sole Brother,” a couple of weeks back and accidentally/selfishly kept it in my back pocket until now. It’s a catchy number with flecks of Freddie Mercury vocals and a body movin’ bass line. A great song that I feel tows the line between obscure coolness and possibly having too much commercial appeal. But it is after all the lead single and I will admit that if the rest of Say It is half as good as “Sole Brother,” the Born Ruffians should have a lot of fanatics by fall.
**Bonus** Dig their cover of Grizzly Bear’s Yellow House juggernaut ”Knife”
