Contest: Win A Limited Edition, Signed, Copy of Passion Pit’s “Manners” on Vinyl
(+ a dreamy signed gloss photo)
I had the opp to catch Michael Angelakos from Passion Pit do a couple stripped-down solo numbers from Manners, last week. Consequently, we have some stuff to hook you up with.
We have 1 signed copy of Manners on vinyl + a glossy photo of the band signed by Michael to give away. Would you like it? Drop a line in the comment section telling us what your album of the year is so far in 2k10. We’ll pick a winner April 23rd and contact them via email… so be sure to use your real contact address.
Interesting note: Before the set, Michael mentioned how everyone always tells him his music makes them feel ‘alive’ and ‘happy’ due to it’s incredibly infectious and upbeat nature. Michael went on to say that, in contrast, the songs on Manners are really emotional and nightmarish for him. Afterwords, he went on to play a very different version of their mega-smash “Sleepy Head” that really allowed you to peer into that sentiment of vulnerability and sadness. Never-the-less, Manners is chalk full of brilliant pop music.
CONTEST IS OVER. Thanks. Winner has been notified via email.

Thus far, my favorite album would have to be Portugal. The Man's 'American Ghetto.' … Fang Island's self-titled holds a close second for sure!!
Tie:
Happy Birthday, s/t and Harlem, “Hippies”
I've been diggin' Free Energy's “Stuck on Nothing”. I can't stop playing it.
Honorable Mention: Vampire Weekend “Contra”
Also awaiting further releases of The Smashing Pumpkin's songs. I really dig the fact that the currently released songs are reminiscent of their earlier work.
It´s hard to choose.
I might have to go with Beach House – Teen Dream.
Broken Bells – Broken Bells and Vampire Weekend – Contra are up there too.
Gorillaz- Plastic Beach & Vampire Weekend- Contra
Thus far, favorite album, Wu Massacre. Wu-Tang is for the children.
I think: Four Tet – There is Love in You
with these close behind:
Local Natives – Gorilla Manor
Beach House – Teen Dream
Harlem – Hippies
Sweet contest!!
So do we win if our favorite album of 2010 is the same as yours? jk.
But I would have to say Toro Y Moi's “Causers of this” is my favorite right now, because it has all of my favorite things: Hip hop, space pop, sexy falsetto vocals, disco samples, and beautiful noises.
Beach House's “Teen Dream” was a definite win in my book for 2010. Fingers crossed that get this Passion Pit vinyl! My record player needs some lovin'.
Owen Palett/Final Fantasy's Heartland album will definitely trump all! It's the best to-date in terms of emotion and instrumentals. It's an honest piece of music.
I'm going with “Contra” by Vampire Weekend, but Spoon's “Transference” is also pretty great.
I'm pretty sure Yellow Fever's self-titled album came out in Jan – that is one seriously awesome album. Just in case it didn't, at this point I'd have to say Gigi's “Maintenant” is topping the list With the new Horse Feathers and Plants and Animals coming out next week, I can't make any promises it'll stay at the top.
Morning Benders “Big Echo”
Toro Y Moi Causers is supa fly
Local Natives – Gorilla Manor or Beach House – Teen Dream. So much good music this year, it's hard to decide!
So far this year, I am all over the new release by Rogue Wave, “Permalight”. Saw those guys live here in St. Paul, last year, and have been a fan ever since. Cary Brothers' new one, “Under Control”, is a close second.
Surfer Blood's Astro Coast. I can make bets that this band will become ultimate hipster status by the end of the year. Seriously.
Beach House – “Teen Dream”!
Vampire Weekend-Contra, Charlotte Gainsbourg-Irm, or Four Tet-There is Love in You
Can't say if it's my favorite but I just finished listening to the new LCD album and it's pretty epic. Titus Andronicus-The Monitor was impressive as well.
Beach House-Teen Dream. Pabst show was amazing.
The GAYNGS album is sickkkkkkk. Thanks for giving this away. This would be an amazing add to my collection!!!
Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti
Go by Jonsi pretty much kicked ass in my books.
oh shit and Free Energys Stuck on Nothin'!
Is it too soon to say “Treats” from Sleigh Bells? Otherwise, I'll throw my hat in the ring for Halem's “Hippies.”
I'm going to go with Broken Bells so far.
Spoon – Transference I'd have to say. It's just great on all levels imo.
based on the # of listens I'd say Phantogram Eyelid Movies
based on the # of listens I'll say Phantogram Eyelid Movies
titus andronicus – the monitor. duh.
