I hope you’re in the mood to remember that horribly awkward phase when you died your hair a different color, had a mohawk, told people you were suicidal, became suicidal, got prescribed some pills, wore studs, and decided to sew patches on everything.  While the Milwaukee five-piece Gut Reactions isn’t “punk” in the purest sense of the word, they still make you want to call your mom a bitch.

“Someone Else” and “Terrible Tiffany,” are exactly the kind of musical surprise I was ready for after trying to mail in an album review for Forgiveness Rock Record all morning.  These tracks have a balance of spit and musicality that most lo-fi rolling punk doesn’t.  It’s hard not to be this good when your songs barely make it past the minute mark.

Gut Reactions is playing Club Garibaldi Saturday May 15th with Trent Fox & The Tenants, as well as the Memphis band Lover!, a record spin set by The Get Drunk DJs, and the rabid-rabbit-masked-man, No Bunny, who is crazy and whom you should love.
