Please Make More Music: Conspiracy of Owls
I don’t think there’s any coincidence that SC’s editor tells me to check out “Ancient Robots” on the same day that Jaill posts the Conspiracy of Owls track on their Facebook page. So I feel like I’m either sucking Jaill’s dick or kissing Mr. Jameson’s ass, but I’ll gladly do both in the name of an obscure group from Michigan.
“Ancient Robots,” is a Beach Boys track, no similes and no metaphors. The only discernible difference is that the Detroit natives talk about androids doin’ work instead of sunny fun. If you’re looking for a Brian Wilson appreciation club you won’t find it in Conspiracy of Owls, mostly because “Ancient Robots” is the only one of their songs that sounds like….a song. The rest of their available back catalogue is a mash of dub beats, basement production, and psychedelic pedal effects. In fact, “Ancient Robots” is the only one of their songs that even has lyrics.
If you’re out there Conspiracy of Owls, the world would like to know more about you.
