MP3: (new) Washed Out- You and I

Anyone remember Revenge of the Nerds II? If so, remember the scene where the nerds, the hot blonde gal, and the retarded gorilla* find themselves stranded on an island with no resources? Do you then remember what happened when they found shrubbery that would allow them to build a fire and luckily stave off being destroyed? ”WE’VE GOT BUSH.” That’s right. They shouted, “we’ve got bush.”

Around the coup we’ve found our own “bush” to start a fire with. Cartoon Network’s candy for grown ups, ADULT SWIM along with Kia Motors, has for the past five weeks been busting/rolling out one new single per week from some of our favorite artists and they plan on continuing the awesomeness until they reach week number inverted infinity symbol.** 8 Singles, 8 Weeks began with Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Matt Sweeney*** covering Gene Watson’s “Love in the Hot Afternoon” and meandered on to the Mad Chef’s radar with Madvillain’s “Papermill” and the new Black Lips burner, “Before You Judge Me.”

My favorite mp3 of the set landed in week 4; a much appreciated new track from Washed Out that features guest vocals from Caroline Polacheck of Brooklyn based, Chairlift. Just when I was starting to return to normal after drenching and fading my cerebral cortex and other important cranial hardware with the chilled out sounds of Washed Out’s Life Of Leisure Ep and High Times, “You and I” gets released. And it’s just as layered and laid back you’d expect and want it to be. When listening, expect your cardiogram to stay relatively steady and stress free, minus a rise here and there from the 80′s inspired audial sprinklings. That is of course until Polacheck’s vocals spike the waves to a much different, but non detracting, height.

This track, along with all/most of Washed Out’s numbers, has the power to erase awkwardness and the ability to fill a room with a sound that will allow you to be as social or anti-social as your mood desires.
