But in the interest of getting the Coolest Kids Around to release an actual damn album – something that’s been on the backburner for YEARS NOW – here’s something really stupid, instead.)

Perhaps it’s just the bloodcurdling shrieking, Gatling gun samples and cougar growls that begin Midwestern emcee Peter Francis Geraci’s forthcoming series of mixtapes, Tha Bankrupty Infotapez, but I happen to think that the aforementioned records – comprised of literally hours of informative “raps” concerning our relation as consumers to the inner workings of finance as an American institution – represent some of the most gut-wrenching situations and nihilistic belief structures in contemporary, post-millennial rap history. The graying and foul-mouthed Midwestern emcee utilizes a pinched, neurotic flow (similar to both the tone of Clipse and the cadence of Supreme Court Justice David Souter) over solid, economical beats – but the real reward of Bankruptcy Infotapez is in what Geraci says, rather than how he says it; “beats” and “cadence” are just buzzwords representing hip-hop conventions, the definitions of which Geraci plays with for the entire album, like a puppy with a ball of string. Or something.

A personal favorite track is “Lesson 6: I’ve Already Told You to Avoid Injurious Malpractice Lawsuit, and Now I’m Going to Tell you How,” in which Geraci weaves the sordid tale of a the forbidden love between two elephants from rival elephant families (the source of their malevolence being, of course, a fight over gangland territory). The track is at once insightful, accusatory, boring, spiritually-addled, guilty, and, as always, impeccably foul-mouthed – but it’s only one of literally a million billion words that Peter Francis Geraci raps on perhaps the best ever bankrupty-concept mixtape written by a bankruptcy litigator: ladies and gentlemen, Tha Bankruptcy Infotapez.
