Hand me down tuesdaY: Beat Radio covers Best Coast: “When I’m With You”
Quite possibly the most famous cat lady ever, Bethany Cosentino aka Best Coast, recorded a hazy pop tune titled “When I’m With You” that is either about enjoying her time with the cat that pops up in nearly every one of her photos and/or her fascination with marijuana. I suppose it could be sincere and actually be about a boy but that’s not nearly as fun. Regardless, it’s one of my favorite tracks of 2010 simply because it’s simple and well done. Look for it on your next mixtape. Do yourself a favor and pick up her debut album, Crazy For You on July 27 and take it to your next beach bash. If you’re the only one jammin’ to it, you might need a new set of friends.
Apparently Brian Sendrowitz, aka Beat Radio, must like the track a bit too because he decided to cover it. I’m usually reluctant to give covers of brand new songs a shot but it’s more than decent. Beat Radio adds a bit more haze, some jangle and a side of some sludgy keys to accompany the lazy vocal delivery that this song was built for. I’m actually a pretty big fan. Enjoy and check out the rest of Beat Radio’s material on their .org. Happy tuesdaY, friends. <3 tonyy
