Two Tracks and Two Reasons to Love Big Boi
Apart from dick-touching and self dick-touching, over the past couple hours I have been blown away, and then blown away by Big Boi’s Sir Lucious Left Foot: Rise of the Cumbersome Subtitle. Here are two songs that make you forget about Andre 3000 and his collegiate football-inspired clothing line, and two reasons why Big Boi should be considered as the only corporate-radio friendly hip-hop artist worth mainstream adoration.
Mp3: Big Boi – Turns Me On (ft. Sleepy Brown & Joi)
We all knew Big Boi was sexy. “Turns Me On,” turned me on the way it slid upward into the chorus and slipped into a low key keyboard backdrop for Big Boi to drape his wordplay over. The back-up vocals brought layers over folds of nearly eerie elegance without overdone. This track was inside-art done by an outsider artist.
Mp3: Big Boi – Night Night (ft. B.o.B & Joi)
This is the best Big Boi flow spat since “Bombs over Baghdad,” but it’s the jarring guitar intro, slap bass, and neon synth beat that hooked me immediately. This beat was darker, digital, and a synesthesiac dark purple. The fruity loop clicks ran the wheels of the machine while Big Boi accelerated and reintroduced me to the speed I forgot that he had. Big Boi had the perfect mix of style, ego, and intelligence in his lyrics on “Night Night”.

I LOVE this album. My only gripes are the gaggle of lame cameos and guest spots. high points 98% of the album – low points, the awful “Follow Us” + Jamie Fox
