Young Man: Signs to Frenchkiss Records+New MP3
Colin Caulfield, aka Young Man, (blurbed about earlier here,) introduced himself to the world a little over a year ago by posting You Tube videos of himself reworking his favorite tracks. He quickly caught the attention of Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox who said that Colin’s cover of his own “Rainwater Cassette Exchange” sent shivers up his spine and was ‘superior to the original.’ We are now being told that those July 09′ You Tube sessions were just a warm up and that the English/French Lit major is ready to ditch rewriting the works of others and is primed to start penning his own masterworks.
On October 12 Frenchkiss Records will release his debut EP, Boy, his first of a string of releases about “love, loss, and growing up without the slightest idea of what ‘being a man’ actually means.” If as prolific as promised, 2 LPs containing gorgeous melodies and haunting choruses are already on deck. Take some time to familiarize yourself with this kid here (with a track recorded today!) and look for him in opening slots for Langhorne Slim (MILWAUKEE JULY 24), Dawes and Lou Barlow this summer.
