repost: Jaill’s Record Release Show!! Come or Get the Hell Out of Milwaukee
Milwaukee crushes just as much as it nurtures, and lately I’ve been in one of those moods unique to residents of the Cream City which feels like no matter how hard you try, no one will ever take this place seriously, including the residents of the city itself.
This is why Jaill is an important band for everyone who lives here. As much as I love There’s No Sky (Oh My My) for purely aesthetic reasons, I also love the cathartic release of listening to something so good and knowing that our city, the city that everyone shits on, bred the talents behind the facile songwriting and punchy pop hooks.
In a round about way this is an announcement for Jaill’s record release show for their Sub Pop debut, This is How We Burn, which will be on Saturday, August 14th at 10pm at Turner Hall. The Detroit-based Pizazz, whose record Get Out Of My House is out now on Burger Records, will also be playing the show, as well as The Sugar Stems, who will also be celebrating their own record release that night with the rest of the Dusty Medical gang.
This is a huge deal, so come and support Sub Pop’s latest acquisition and home-town heroes. Just think about how much fun it would be to dance the night away as the Brewers lose another game, the transit system spirals into insolvency, tuition goes up another 5% at UWM, and our murder rate plateaus at twice that of New York City’s. This will also be the last time Jaill plays a show in the 414 before they ship out with the Hold Steady on their west-coast tour.
If you don’t come to this show, get the fuck out of Milwaukee.
