Snark Week Presents: Heliumcore

(L-R) Cam'ron, Gucci Mane, Madlib

Gucci Mane – Certified G

Cam’ron – Shake

Quasimoto – Bad Character

Chopped and screwed is great and all, but of equal merit (but less publicity) are the rap songs that invert DJ Screw’s patented formula (that’s two turntables + 24 ounces of codeine cough syrup, sip as needed) by raising the voices of their respective rappers to degrees unseen since the atrocities imparted onto society in the early 60s by Alvin and Chipmunks.

The most public recent example of this trend is probably Ludacris’ “How Low,” which I’m not going to post here because there’s no better sign of Luda’s fall from being the Southern rapper to his present incarnation as an insipid, D-list actor-slash-rapper. So instead, here’s my top 5 favorite things about the three songs at the top of the page.

5.) the staccato-clap drums in “Shake.”

4.) Gucci Mane trading verses with a helium-voiced version of himself for like way too long.

3.) The story behind Quas’s The Unseen: apparently Quas/Madlib spent a week eating magic mushrooms and producing this album in its entirety. Which explains the helium, I guess.

2.) did you guys see the thing about Brett Favre sending pictures of his dong to a TV reporter? (unfortunately, the reporter was not Larry King)

1.)

  1. Goldstmark says:

where the fuck do you find these images? and who attempts something like that?

  2. tony 1der says:

well, this particular one resulted from a google image search of “bears horses”

as for the second question, this seems like something that would happen in japan.
