Wednesday August 4: Milwaukee, Show Your Teeth

Super hyped for a great Wednesday night of music in two of Milwaukee’s greatest venues.  While most people “in the know” have had The National w/ SC faves The Antlers at The Riverside on their calendars for a bit, a creeper of a show has popped up across town that you shouldn’t miss; WMSE & Battlecry Productions present Phosphorescent, J. Tillman and Mark Waldoch at Mad Planet.  Well, if you dig psychedelic barroom twang or are just into great music you shouldn’t miss it.

Phosphorescent aka Matt Houck has been known to wear his influences on his sleeve; recording a full album of Willie Nelson covers titled, To Willie, and his latest record Here’s to Taking it Easy is a patchwork western shirt that stitches The Band, Neil Young and The Byrds together seamlessly.  While it’s hard to listen to anything these days without skimming other artists off the top, Houck’s musicianship is crowned with his higher pitched vocals that don’t hide anything, much like his sometimes quirky and mostly harshly truthful lyrics.

Check the interview Madano did with singer/songwriter/drummer J. Tillman last year  here and check the track below from his forthcoming  vinyl only release(9/24) Singing Ax on Western Vinyl.

Mark Waldoch, leader of great Milwaukee band Celebrated Workingman is also on the bill.

GO TO THIS SHOW! If you’re coming from The Riverside (I am) Phosphorescent won’t come on until The National is over.  Also, the “in the know” people that bring their ticket stubs from The National show will only have to pay $7.
