HAND ME DOWN 2SDAY-Never Tire of Bowie Covers
I’m just now realizing that I have stubborn love for most-if not all covers of David Bowie songs. Simply by possessing a heart and a brain (wishful thinking)- swooning, contemplating or tear wiping to a countless number of Bob Dylan songs covered by whomever, seems natural. A no brainer. But for some reason I didn’t realize I possessed the same feeling for artists giving Bowie the cover treatment. You know what was the actual eye opener? I couldn’t turn off Culture Club’s version of “Starman.”
Well, if you share the same sentiment as I, we’re in luck; Manimal Vinyl recently released a tribute album, We Were So Turned On-A Tribute to David Bowie featuring 42 tracks by an all star cast (click the buy link to see the tracklist ). Needless to say, I’m super excited to hear how these artists interpret, manipulate and reimagine the work of one of the most prolific and eclectic performers still living.
Bringing Hand me down 2sday back after a short hiatus are three tracks off We Were So Turned On that caught my ear right away. Doesn’t hurt that I’m already a fan of two of these acts…..and the original tracks. Keren Ann’s “Life on Mars?” was a pleasant surprise. Hope you enjoy it.
