The Strokes-’Angles’ out March 22 on RCA Records // MP3 and Track listing
MP3: The Strokes- I’ll Try Anything Once (First Impressions Demo)
The fourth album from the gods of my late adolescence, The Strokes, arrives March 22 in the US courtesy of RCA records. Angles, aptly titled due to each of the five members lending their hand to the songwriting process, is my most anticipated release of 2011. Rolling Stone’s David Fricke claims that this new album is the best Strokes record since Is This It?. This proclamation is huge and begs the question: Dave, I realize that “Clocks” was a super jam and all but, did Coldplay cock block your entire musical Two Thousand and Three? Did you miss out on Room on Fire because you were frozen in carbonite? (j/k)
Either way, I’m stoked and hoping that Angles is a musical hybrid of Fabrizio Moretti‘s Little Joy and the solo efforts of Albert Hammond Jr. and Julian Casablancas. Honest, I can barely contain my excitement. In preparation I’ve listened to Room on Fire 636 times in the past month and have begun using Casablancas’ words as my own…even when they’re nonsensical. For example:
Friend: What are you up to tonight?
Me: We could go and get 40s. Fuck going to that party.
Friend: Party? Huh. And why 40s? That sounds pretty heavy duty for a Tuesday.
Me: Oh really, your folks are away now? Alright you convinced me.
And I have even been stopped from etching The Strokes logo into the top side of my left paw. It’s called devotion people. Get some.
So dust off your Members Only jackets and your Vans slip ons, 2011 is asking for your mindset to revert back to the excitement The Strokes brought about in 2001. Get ready for Angles and a string of tourdates that start with a show in Vegas on March 2nd, followed by Coachella, New Orleans Jazz and Hertiage Festival and more to follow.
Oh, and be sure to peep the demo above of the first track off their last record, First Impressions of Earth, that is also featured on the soundtrack to Sofia Coppola’s latest film Somewhere.
