mp3: Jeff the Brotherhood – Bummer

I knew I loved this band from the moment the drummer sat down at his set and i read the kick drum cover: Jeffro Tull. Anyone who can turn their band’s name into a reference to a 60′s brit rock group is a winner in my book.

It seems that there are two kinds of people when it comes to JEFF: those who love the band and those who have yet to hear of them. This hard-rockin’ Nashville-based duo powers through hard guitar rifts and short psychedelic garage songs that are sure to wake you up and leave you reminiscent of early Sonic Youth. They are the stripped-down essence of everything you have ever loved about rock music, and their Nirvana-esque riffs sound like tantrums on stage. Plus, Jake plays a guitar with only three strings in tact, which makes their sound rowdy, trashy, and guttural. Their setup may be minimal, but their sound is anything BUT that.

Most of their songs are about hanging out/getting fucked up, their lyrics are straightforward, and their latest album Heavy Days plays perfectly from start to finish and is drenched in noise. But seriously. Get ready to play this album over and over again. And if you ever get the chance to see them live, DON’T MISS OUT. Their upcoming album should drop in March (please?) and the song “Bummer” just leaked. Check them out, people, because there is no way these guys will stay under wraps for too much longer.
