We live in  an age of bleeding edge , split-second cooler then you.  Bands blow up and burn out before you even knew who they were and had a chance to love/hate them.  It is always  stunning,  especially in the unforgiving, hyper darwinian light of the musical now,  to reflect on bands that have not only stood the test of time, but have managed to be eternally relevant to music.
