The Fatty Acids Release New Full-Length – “Leftover Monsterface”

Last week, Milwaukee’s own The Fatty Acids released an ambitious new LP called “Leftover Monsterface.”

Although they’re regulars on the bill at cozy local clubs like Cactus Club and Linneman’s, “Monsterface” has a strikingly arena-ready sound.  It’s one of those records where you can get lost in the richness of the production alone.  Listen through headphones to truly appreciate the hugeness of these songs.

“Monsterface” sees the Fatty Acids sharpening the songcraft showcased on last year’s great “Stop Berries, Berries, and Berries, Berries.”  Rhythmically complex and packed with hooks, the songs rock, dance, and sometimes go absolutely bonkers.  There is not a dull moment on this record.

The dramatic horn interludes and epic builds of “Football Team” make it the album’s centerpiece, both musically and lyrically.  Other standouts include spacy opener “Creature” and manic, falsetto-infused “Argentinian Mistresses.”  The whacky “Memory Banks” feels like a jock jam for people who don’t play sports, with its screamed group vocals and off-kilter peppiness.

Overall, “Monsterface” is a solid, polished effort, and one of the best releases to come out of Milwaukee so far this year.  You can listen/download the album for free here.  You can pre-order a hard copy (along with other goodies) here.
