A Must Hear: Company’s “Holy City”
mp3 – Company – Waiting for Saints to Arrive
mp3 - Company – The Departed
mp3 – Company – Heaven is Gone
This is hands down the best thing to land in my inbox in quite some time. Company‘s Holy City is comprised of 9 tracks weaving in and out of lo-fi, psych (check the gorgeous, “Shepherd’s Ocean) and twinges of americana styled instrumentation. Lead man, Brian Hannon, adds a world of beautifully crafted song writing.
Cliffs Notes on Company from Exit Stencil Recordings:
Catholic grade school friends Brian Hannon (guitar, vocals, songwriter) and Kelly Grant (drums) both end up living in Charleston, SC following their respective stints in college, reconnect, and start playing music together. They play some shows; get introduced to Band of Horses who in turn take them out on tour and to SXSW; while in Austin they meet Matthew Johnson from Fat Possum who agrees to put out their first EP (released January 4th, 2011); they do some more touring, including a stint with Matt Pond PA, and eventually cross paths with us here at Exit Stencil.
Tragically, drummer Kelly Grant, who was such an integral part to the creation of this Holy City, passed away unexpectedly prior to the release.
I imagine we’ll all be hearing a ton about this band in the months to come.
Company’s Holy City is available digitally and on wax (Ltd Edition LP (300)) from Exit Stencil.
