Beantown’s trio , Thick Shakes, are always a blast. The farfisa kills me every time. I dug their last drop and I dig this one just as much. If you are looking for some of the finest garage pop the world over look no farther. These tunes are more infectious then dollar night at Itchie’s back alley brothel. Dig the lead track on the single Deep Pockets and then mosey on over(pilgrim) to their band camp to scoop the B side Gimme Time!

So…uh… this is new for me.. normally I can find SOMETHING on a band…perhaps my digging skills are pub sar atm! Who knows ( the Shadow prolly.. but he isn’t here right now haha). I know more about my creepy, reclusive, cat infested ex- neighbor then I do about this band. For realz.
When writing about music and sharing tunage you are always concious of a few things… first off did you get your facts proper? It always happens..you make mistakes… but nothing is as redic for me as when I happen to check something out somewhere and just see fact error centraal. That generally means dude/dudette is a regurgitator. You may know what I mean…a twitter monster or worse a farm utensil/silverback-ursine zombie potentially devoid of personal taste…must listen…toooo BNNNMMMM. Vomatrocious! I kid, I kid…kinda…good music is good music and popular doesn’t mean good or bad.”Cool” on the other hand..well that is a different story haha. Cool is generally passing, but cream rises to the top.
The second thing is relativity… this I don’t care about so much…but I kinda do.. if you are dropping deep cuts…cool… but if you are squawking about “new” music, but clockin’ some “fresh” release from last year ..yowza! Perhaps I am overkill on this stuff, but it is always rad to find someone else who is like kind and can turn me on to new digs…not stuff I heard months ago and we can hopefully do the same.
I am cringing at how lamesauce Simpson’s comic book guy that sounds (urm no it was only on the Japanese c35 RE-release you rube!! )…but it is what it is haha. I am not that bad..I think haha. It is more a function of excessive compulsive music listening then some pointless oneupsmanship of I can’t believe you listen to that still. That is whacktacular. I like to talk about/share music in the way I would like to taste it. Piping hot from the oven…or “whoa! what is this awesomeness..how did I miss it?? A million thank yous sah!”. It doesn’t always happen, but we do our best…we are only poultry after all.
So all that being said.. I know almost NOTHING about Horquillas (which is kinda refreshing)…they/he/she/it could be a side project of Jonah Hill and Randy “Snap Into A Slim Jim” Savage’s ghost. As I type this, there is someone , somewhere who knows all about this band and is laughing at my incompetence..grrr hahah you win the music nerd alert this time. These Horquillas tracks dropped this morning on the uber prolific Brandon Biondo/Dracula Horse (BFFXOXO) site and the tracks are rad so..really, that is all that matters to me. I will later find out this is Biondo’s 45th band. lol. Dig!

New Balam Acab – “Apart”

For some odd reason I am slow on the uptake with Balam Acab still. I dig Alex Koone’s tunes (maybe not as crazy much as other folks who are KooneKoone 24/7 haha), but it takes me a second for them to click. Something holds me in there though…then whammy I dig em.The segundo cut, Apart, from his upcoming disc Wander/Wonder bringeth more of the same flavor as the first. A dash of tuned up vocal samples, a splash of glitch and all held together with some dreamy lo-key production.
As I suspected before and from doing smore digging…this is going to be an album to listen to back to front as a whole not so much a “this track is the gnarliest charlie of them all” dealio. That being said I seem to be in the minority.. as most folks are hoppin’ on one foot day one about each tune haha so ,as always, spinnit for yerself and see!

The blissed out hazy popster’s new tune is more on page with twinkling synths and and a bigger driving sounds then the fuzzy goodness of Hearts, but we can still get down. Variety is the spice of life. Check it.
